While not completely dormant musically, Yo Gotti has been spending much of the year in full-on label head mode, showing support for his artists and current hip hop frontrunners Moneybagg Yo, 42 Dugg, and EST Gee. He did liberate “Drop” with DaBaby back in June — the Memphis veteran can also be heard on BIG30’s recent single “Too Official.”

Today (Sept. 30), Gotti officially returns to wax with “For The Record,” which sees production from SMPLGTWY, Boi-1da, Omar Guetfa, AT, and A-Darian. Simply put, the hard-hitting track sees Gotti delivering some of his hardest bars to date, reminding all listeners that he hasn’t lost a step lyrically, despite his entrepreneurial focus.

Last year, Gotti liberated his tenth studio LP Untrapped, an album that also marked his last under his partnership with Epic Records. That project came with 15 songs and contributions from Moneybagg, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Megan Thee Stallion, Rick Ross, Estelle, and Blac Youngsta. The project was a top ten success on the Billboard 200 thanks to 35,000 first-week album equivalent units counted.

Outside of being a recording artist, this week also revealed Gotti’s new position as co-owner of the Major League Soccer team D.C. United. As previously reported by REVOLT, the “Rake It Up” rapper released a statement on his latest acquisition:

“I was introduced to the game by my son and watched how quickly it has grown in our country … I’ve long admired Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan’s ambition and entrepreneurship and look forward to collaborating with them — and the entire ownership group — to further elevate D.C. United’s commitment to connecting soccer, entertainment, community, and culture. Together, we’re going to enhance fan experience and bring new and exciting events to Audi Field.”

Press play on Yo Gotti’s “For The Record.”
