Wale, “Folarin Like”

We’ve already credited J. Cole for lighting a fire under Wale’s ass to result in this sick freestyle over the classic “Nas Is Like” beat. Now we’ve got it’s accompanying visual. In the solely black-and-white clip, Wale takes to the streets at night, drinking, sipping, and spitting (literally and figuratively) in a simple concept that successfully shines the spotlight on his lyricism.

Diana Gordon, “Woman”

The woman, formerly known as Wynter Gordon (and who can be credited for being the brains behind Beyoncé’s “Becky with the good hair” line), is celebrating, well, being a woman in her song (and video) of the same name. In the black-and-white, lo-fi clip, Gordon recruits pregnant moms-to-be to walk New York City’s streets topless and in trenchcoats. The powerful scenes are spliced with Gordon and her female friends being regular badasses on bridges and in taxis.

De La Soul, “Memory Of…(Us)” feat. Estelle and Pete Rock

We could explain this to you, but Pete Rock (who, it was just revealed, has reconnected with a post-hospitalized Kanye West tells it best as a soft-spoken PBS-like narrator introducing a show: “It’s the story of a bride-to-be, played by Estelle, who has a moment of reflection just prior to delivering her vows. It’s a story that blurs the line between memory and reality, regret and redemption, plug 1 and plug 2.” Sure enough, Estelle reflects on two past loves (played by Pos and Dave) before taking the plunge with another man.
