This past weekend, Popcaan blessed the masses with a new single titled “Superior,” a collaboration with producer Anju Blaxx that sees him reflecting on various obstacles and evils, and its overall effect on his mental health:

“A God and music know me pain, know ‘nough a them wan’ see me falling like the rain, whole a we a human being, but we a no the same, whole heap a family go switch the link a look fi fame, d’even a call them name, them never hold it ‘pon the battle field long enough, guess them never was man enough, own friend and family planning up, think with me enemy fi set me up, oh no…”

As with many of his previous clips, the matching visual for “Superior” takes viewers into Popcaan’s life in Jamaica, complete with shots of him and his crew doing various things in different locations on the island. What sets the video apart are various screenshots of news stories that paint Popcaan in a negative light, which matches the song’s emotionally charged subject matter.

“Superior” is the latest in a series of loose singles from the Unruly talent. This year alone, Popcaan has blessed us with top tier cuts like “Live Some Life,” “Cream” with Frahcess One, “Win,” “Best/Blessed,” “Jungle Justice (Part Twice),” “Medal,” and “Survivor,” among many others. Last year, he liberated his fourth studio LP Fixtape, which contained 19 tracks and additional features from Stylo G, Dane Ray, Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Masicka, Tommy Lee, Jada Kingdom, and more. Months after Fixtape would make landfall, Popcaan would then team up with his OVO peer Preme for the EP Link Up, which contained collaborations alongside BEAM, French Montana, Davido, and Wiz Khalifa over six tracks.

Press play on Popcaan’s “Superior” video below. Hopefully, a new body of work lies somewhere in the near future.
