Following last week’s single “Comfortable,” Popcaan and Preme liberate their new EP Link Up, which sees six dope cuts and assists from Davido, Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, and BEAM. The project’s closer, “MURDA,” was also a standout from Popcaan’s August release FIXTAPE that saw the artists switching out dance floor vibes for more hard-hitting street fare, produced by Westen Weiss, Carter Lang, Smoko Ono, and London on da Track:

“Gun dem ah beat like ah drum machine, rifle, handgun, sub-machine, diss di link Toronto mek yuh sink off like ah submarine, smoke di weed and f*** di gyal dem hard, dawg, mi nuh drink no lean/

Tell di king no bring him wife ‘round mi, cah yu will lose yuh queen, pick a side, no in between, mask on like it’s halloween, diss the team, n***a you a damn walking Frankenstein…/”

Having already been connected through their mutual relationship with Drake and his October’s Very Own label and overall movement, Preme spoke to HotNewHipHop about how the decision to make Link Up came to fruition:

“We were friends before we ever made a song together. Like, we’re really close, OVO and his clique Unruly, just from having mutual friends. We’ve been chilling with Popcaan for years before anybody made music. I think that listening to the music, you can hear it. because everybody’s like, ‘yo, y’all sound so dope together.’”

Aside from Popcaan’s FIXTAPE, Preme dropped his debut album Light Of Day in 2018, which saw 15 cuts and additional appearances from Offset, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Wayne, and YG. In that same year, he also teamed up with Tiësto and Dzeko for an alternate, more club-friendly version of the album cut “Jackie Chan,” which charted worldwide and ended up on Tiësto’s album The London Sessions.
