50 Cent is preparing his fans for the release of his “Black Mafia Family” series, which he believes will outperform “Power.” Nearly one month after Starz debuted a 30-second teaser, the Queens native took to Instagram to release the extended trailer for the new show.
“This is what I been talking about, ‘BMF’ is better than good,” he penned the caption. “This is the new wave. TV will not be the same.”
According to a press release from the network, the show is based on a true story, which captures the relationship between Demetrius and Terry — “two brothers who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in this country.”
“This is a story about love, kinship and capitalism in the pursuit of the American dream,” read an excerpt from a press release from the network.
The trailer itself captures the moment the siblings realize they were in possession of a product that would bring them much success. “Man, we’ve got a product that creates its own demand,” Demetrius tells Terry. “As long as we’ve got my vision and your brains, can’t nobody mess with us, man.”
Other clips in the two-minute trailer show the conversations the brothers have about the risks of their street business and the obstacles they’d have to overcome to reign supreme.
“Ain’t nobody gave nobody shit in this country, T,” Demetrius says to his brother. “They didn’t give us our freedom or the right to vote. We had to fight for that shit. It’s the same way as us fighting for our independence in this game, man.”
“So, watcha saying?” Terry asks, to which Demetrius answers, “We’re going to be kings, T.”
“BMF” is scheduled to premiere on Starz on Sept. 26. Wood Harris and Kash Doll are in the star-studded cast, and Snoop Dogg and La La Anthony are among the show’s recurring guest stars. Days ago, 50 revealed that Eminem will also make an appearance in the series.
“I’m honored and appreciative of my good friend Em for supporting my new show ‘BMF,’” 50 said in a statement. “We couldn’t do a show based in Detroit without incorporating the legend that is Eminem.”
Though 50 hypes up most of his shows, he recently shared his belief that “BMF” will perform better than “Power.” “‘Power’ is fictional,” he said during a recent panel. “This is a true story, a completely different project. ‘BMF’ is an organically bigger version of ‘Power.’ I have constantly said it will outperform ‘Power.’”
