Despite the pandemic and unrest, Calboy had a busy 2020. Things mainly kicked off via the February release Long Live The Kings, which originally saw six tracks and additional features from G Herbo, Lil Baby, and Lil Tjay. Months later, the Chicago rapper would unveil a deluxe version of that project, adding on six additional songs and new features. In addition to his own work, Calboy could also be found contributing to tracks like YG’s “Thug Kry” and the late Pop Smoke’s “Diana.”

This week, Calboy decided to bless his fans with a new year’s drop titled “Beatbox Freestyle,” a flip of SPOTEMGOTTEM’s runaway hit “Beatbox” that sees him letting the world know what they can expect from him moving forward:

“Oh you got yours, I roll wit’ mine, bitch I’m certified, young wild boy, you know the vibes, I was on the block like ‘sho’ you right,’ heard a boy want some problems, play wit’ them dollars, we gon’ load the nine/

Shawty like, why you gotta ride wit’ so many bottles, bitch I po’ the line, weirdo boy don’t come outside, If I’m coming out, you know somebody dyin’/”

Only adding to last year’s achievements, Calboy also joined the likes of Polo G, CHIKA, Rod Wave, Lil Keed, Jack Harlow, and NLE Choppa as the new members of the XXL Freshman class, further increasing his exposure to the masses. Within that, Calboy, Mulatto, Fivio Foreign, and 24kGoldn also made headlines for their viral freestyle cypher, considered by many to be one of the best heard from out of XXL’s popular series in years.

Press play on Calboy’s “Beatbox Freestyle” below — also included is a brand new drop from Calboy, ForeverHood, and Foogiano titled “Make It Happen.” Hopefully, we’ll be hearing plenty more from the RCA-signed artist this year.
