Back in February, Popcaan dropped off an inspirational single titled “Medal,” a Jamie YVP-produced number that sees him harmonizing about obtaining the gold — something that many of us can certainly relate to in regards to our own goals:

“Put mi foot inna di starter block, when mi run outta dat, people catch heart attack, see di finish line, mi nah go ever stop, yuh know mi extra fit, gi’ dem ah extra lap, when mi run out inna mi jersey, like Suarez, mi haffi buss di net, yeah, mi work hard fi weh mi wan’ dawg, mi full ah ambition, nuh fraid fi buss ah sweat/”

Now, “Medal” gets a black-and-white visual that mixes footage of Popcaan hanging with his crew with shots of the Jamaican star laying down his lyrics and melodies in front of the microphone.

In addition to “Medal,” this year alone has seen Popcaan delivering a slew of infectious cuts and videos to the masses, including “Relevant,” “Jah Love” with Zamunda and Dre Island, “Win,” “Memory,” “God Is Love” with Beres Hammond, “Jungle Justice (Part Twice),” “Best/Blessed,” “Cream” with Frahcess One, “Smoked Out Freestyle” with Bakersteez, and the four-track Gyalentine’s EP. He also recently contributed to Skillibeng’s “Pree” and Beenie Man’s “Fun In The Sun.”

Last year, Popcaan teamed up with OVO Sound to release his latest album FIXTAPE, which contained 19 tracks and additional features from Drake, French Montana, Jada Kingdom, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Stylo G, Masicka, Dane Ray, and more. The masses also got a deluxe version of FIXTAPE — titled YIY CHANGE FIXTAPE — that added on 13 tracks for fans to enjoy. Given all of the music he’s released in 2021 thus far, it’s hopefully that an official follow-up lies somewhere on the horizon.
