Today (Sept. 17), fans get to check out Lil Nas X’s official debut LP MONTERO, which comes with 15 tracks and collaborations alongside Elton John, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Megan Thee Stallion, and Jack Harlow — the last of who appeared on the chart-topping cut “INDUSTRY BABY.” In addition to the new album, fans can now also check out a new visual for “THATS WHAT I WANT,” a Ryan Tedder, KBeaZy, Blake Slatkin, and Omer Fedi-produced standout that sees the Georgia star opening up about the ups and downs of looking for love as a gay black man:

“Need a boy who can cuddle with me all night, keep me warm, love me long, be my sunlight, tell me lies, we can argue, we can fight, yeah, we did it before, but we’ll do it tonight, that afro black boy with the gold teeth, he dark skin, lookin’ at me like he know me, I wonder if he got the G or the B, let me find out and see, he comin’ over to me, yeah, these days, I’m way too lonely, I’m missin’ out, I know, these days, I’m way too alone…”

Much like previous videos, Lil Nas X goes all out to bring “THATS WHAT I WANT” to life. Directed by STILLZ, viewers can see him take to the football field, spend time with a potential love interest by a campfire, and pour his heart out while donning a wedding dress in a church.

MONTERO follows 2019’s 7, a short-play EP that contained eight songs and contributions from Cardi B, Travis Scott, and more — the project was also home to Lil Nas X’s record-breaking single “Old Town Road” and its Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted remix. Not too long after 7 was released, Lil Nas X upgraded the single “Rodeo” with a verse from none other than Nas.
