At some point this year, fans will be able to enjoy Lil Nas X’s official debut LP MONTERO, which has already been led by singles like “SUN GOES DOWN” and its title track — a song that’s probably garnered more attention for its controversial video alone. Always aware of public opinion, the Atlanta star has decided to keep the proverbial table shaking with “INDUSTRY BABY” — a track that was preceded by a hilarious trailer that referenced his well-publicized Nike court case.

Produced by Nick Lee, Kanye West, and Take a Daytrip, the track sees the artists rapping about fame and success, among other things — including the aforementioned project that everyone is waiting for:

“Need to get this album done, need a couple numbеr ones, need a plaque on evеry song, need me like one with Nicki now, tell a rap nigga I don’t see ya, hah, I’m a pop nigga like Bieber, hah, I don’t fuck bitches, I’m queer, hah, but these niggas bitches like Madea, yeah, yeah, yeah, ayy, oh, let’s do it, I ain’t fall off, I just ain’t release my new shit...”

Prior to MONTERO, Lil Nas X made landfall with the EP 7, an 8-track offering that’s earned the artist a Grammy nod, several chart placement (including number two on the Billboard 200), and Platinum and Gold certifications in the United States and other countries around the globe. In addition to singles like “Panini” and “Rodeo” with Cardi B, 7 also houses the undeniable smash “Old Town Road” and its subsequent remix with country legend Billy Ray Cyrus — a track that has essentially been unavoidable since its inception in 2018. Simply put, attempting to name that song’s accolades to date would require worlds more than your typical music write-up.
