This past Christmas, Playboi Carti released his third full-length and second official album Whole Lotta Red, a 24-track, genre-bending effort that saw features from Kid Cudi, Kanye West, and Future. The long-awaited body of work was a commercial success, landing at the top of the Billboard 200 — Carti’s first — thanks to 100,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. The project also charted in several different countries around the world.

This past week, the Atlanta artist dropped off a new visual from Whole Lotta Red for “Sky,” an ode to life on drugs that sees production from Art Dealer:

“Wake up, it’s the first of the month, I brush my teeth and count up, I let my bitch roll my blunt, I’m ‘bout to dirty my cup, pour up some lean and get stuck, I make her scream when we fuck, I don’t drive R8s, I don’t like those, I drive the Daytona and I tinted the windows, can’t fuck with nobody, not even my shadow…/”

Directed by Nick Walker, the accompanying clip for “Sky” sees Carti and his band of misfits terrorizing a green-lit supermarket. The collective can be seen knocking product off of shelves, stealing carts from other shoppers, and overall just creating a huge mess in their wake before departing. The clip is essentially the type of punk-counter culture vibe that Carti has been presenting in increasing amounts throughout his still-young career.

Whole Lotta Red follows 2018’s Die Lit, a well-received 19-track effort that saw Carti collaborating alongside the likes of Skepta, Travis Scott, friend-turned-foe Lil Uzi Vert, Pi’erre Bourne, Nicki Minaj, Bryson Tiller, Chief Keef, Gunna, Young Thug, and more. That released peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 thanks to 61,000 first-week units, eventually earned Carti a Gold plaque.
