In back-to-back Instagram posts, Playboi Carti alludes to his highly-anticipated album, Whole Lotta Red, arriving this week.
Wednesday (Oct. 16) Carti posted photos of himself to Instagram, captioned, “him <3 red incoming.”
The caption immediately set fans into a frenzy, believing the long-awaited album to be arriving soon. Whole Lotta Red, Carti’s sophomore LP, has never had an official drop date and its release has been impeded by leaks and Carti’s own finalization.
In an interview with The Fader, the Atlanta-born rapper admitted to his own perfectionism drawing out the project’s release date.
“I could be done if I wanted to. I’m just trying to top shit,” he said. “I might make the hardest song ever tomorrow.”
Less than one day later, Carti followed up his tease-worthy post giving fans an actual number, writing, “<48 hours! locked in.”
If all goes well, fans could see Carti’s Whole Lotta Red before the weekend. However, the “Magnolia” rapper has set and missed drop dates in the past. At a concert this July, Carti told the crowd he was aiming to release Whole Lotta Red within the next 60 days. He also reveled the album will contain no features.
“I ain’t gon’ lie. It feels like we worked too hard for this moment,” he told the Milwaukee audience. “So, I’ma do this shit with no features.”
Throughout his career, Carti has suffered persistent leaks, with dozens of unreleased songs appearing online and and found in SoundCloud playlists.
Whole Lotta Red is expected to include production from Pi’erre Bourne, Maaly Raw, Richie Souf, Roark and DJ Don Cannon. According to The Fader, fans can expect to hear more of Baby Voice Carti and will find the rapper being more experimental with his his sounds.
“I’m never gonna tell you when Whole Lotta Red is dropping, you guys. Nice try,” she said. “I can tell you Whole Lotta Red is amazing and it’s next-level and it’s way better than anything any of the other people I heard doing, for real.”
