After some teasing on social media, Freddie Gibbs unveils his new single “Gang Signs,” a Pilgrim and FaxOnly-produced effort that sees an assist from Top Dawg general ScHoolboy Q. The track sees the two speaking on being able to — or wanting to be able to — live a criminal-free lifestyle thanks to their current career successes in music:

“Yeah, I just wanna be legit, fuck a bad Insta bitch, Bunny Rabbit off the rip, Bunny Rabbit wrist is lit, ‘Mighty-’Mighty know it’s lit, all is well in this bitch, hundred shells in this bitch, fifty shells in this bitch/

Never tell in this bitch, fuck 12, suck a dick, fuck 12, suck a dick, Cutlass, all talk with the top off, hit Diego, he gon’ hit me with the drop-off/”

“Gang Signs” also comes with a quasi-animated visual courtesy of Aaron Hymes, with Gibbs as a literal bunny rabbit. As the miniature mammal, a gun-toting Gibbs riding around getting money, disrespecting the police (who are actual pigs), and hanging with his fellow crew of animals. ScHoolboy appears as a tatted up turtle, effectively making the proverbial cypher complete.

Last year, Gibbs teamed up with The Alchemist for Alfredo, which is considered to be one of the best bodies of work in 2020. The project contained 10 tracks with additional features from Rick Ross, Benny The Butcher, Tyler, The Creator, and Conway The Machine. Alfredo became both Gibbs and Alchemist’s highest-charting album to date, peaking at number 15 on the Billboard 200 thanks to 30,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. On top of the many accolades from magazines and music websites, Alfredo has also earned the duo a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
