Following a successful 2020, Shenseea looks to bring the fire early this year. This past weekend, the Jamaican star revealed a freestyle that saw her delivering some of her hardest bars over the instrumental to Young T and Bugsey’s hit single “Don’t Rush”:

“Tell them seh a Shen-Y-E-N-G, Yeng, different nuh depend pon man fi a cent, me a Yeng best a the best crème de la crème, me thing up nuh pin up mi nuh hem/

Criminal wanted by many men, real champion ask Buju Banton, dem wah see me fail but that anna God’s plan, beca’ me a hunt ghost like Danny Phantom.../”

The rewind-worthy freestyle was then followed by a live rendition of “Bad Habit,” a more adults-only cut that sees production from Romeich Entertainment. That single was released in the midst of a slew of dope loose cuts from Shenseea last year, including “The Sidechick Song,” ”Wasabi,” ”Good Comfort,” “Sure Sure,” and “Bad Alone.” In addition to her own drops, Shenseea could also be found on songs like Masego’s “Silver Tongue Devil” and the Rvssian, Swae Lee, and Young Thug collaboration “IDKW” in that same time frame.

Shenseea’s “Don’t Rush” freestyle quickly received critical acclaim on social media, which many likening her approach to that of Nicki Minaj and even earning praise from the likes of Safaree Samuels and Missy Elliott. The response is reminiscent of Shenseea’s show-stealing appearance during the most recent BET Hip-Hop Awards, which saw her trading bars with Skip Marley, Koffee, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer — the last two of whom made their own moment during a memorable episode of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s “Verzuz” series.

Press play on Shenseea’s “Don’t Rush” freestyle below. All that truly awaits us now is an official debut LP from the dancehall/reggae talent, which is hopeful to arrive sometime this year.
