A couple of months ago, Covaboy dropped off an emotionally charged cut titled “Smile More,” an honest account of the DMV rising star’s mental state in lieu of his experiences. Today, he follows that up with a new single titled “Pinky Promise (Black Excellence),” which is produced by Rick Roman and samples Xscape’s classic 90’s cut “Understanding.” As the song’s description explains, the track sees Covaboy and fellow hometown hero Abdou providing inspiration to all who are striving to achieve certain goals in the midst of struggle:

“Black excellence, I told you I’m the best up in my city, so it’s disrespectful asking me who’s next up in my city, tell ‘em since 16 I got a check up in my city, sometimes before work, or you’ll get stretched up in my city…/”

The visual comes courtesy of Chase Money TV and Block Savage and starts with some spoken word being told over the creation of the now-famous Black Lives Matter sign near the White House. Covaboy with his crew can then be seen out in the park, playing games, sipping drinks, and all-in-all having a great time with loved ones that you care about. He also appears with different luxury whips in both Los Angeles and D.C. throughout the nearly four-minute clip.

Currently, Covaboy is said to be working with the forthcoming body of work Silver Sity, an ode to his Silver Spring, MD stomping grounds. That project will also be his first full-length since 2013’s Nightmares N Nike Airs. Just last week, Covaboy took to social media to reveal both Silver Sity’s expected release date in February, as well as an apparent collaboration with New Orleans veteran Curren$y.
