It looks like Wale season might be making its way back around just in time for the holidays. Following the recent release of the well-received “Lions, Bengals & Bears” freestyle comes a new collaboration with Gunna titled “Flawed,” which sees production from Mike Hector and centers around the imperfections within two people and their relationship’s eventual demise as an unfortunate result:
“Still want you, shine, there’s haters on your mind, there’s strangers in your circle, there’s angels by your side, I hate to say you changed, you hate to say I’ve not, but fame run up and down, fame is suicide/
I could never hate you, you cool with everybody, guess I’m everybody too, still I’m thankful that God made you, we had a great run, now go run away, it’s cool.../”
Directed by Joseph Desrosiers and Melissa Forde, the black-and-white visual that accompanies the track gives an artistic account of the song’s subject matter, with Wale and Gunna rapping and harmonizing their verses to their respective counterparts. Near the end, Young Thug shows up for an uncredited performance of his own, a presumed outcome of the rappers being in the studio together during the song’s creation.
Back in June, Wale surprised the world with an EP titled The Imperfect Storm, a short project that spawned from the chaos our communities have been facing and continue to face this year. His last LP, Wow... That’s Crazy, made landfall in 2019 and boasted 15 cuts with additional assists from Kelly Price, Ari Lennox, Boogie, 6LACK, Bryson Tiller, Lil Durk, his Maybach Music cronies Rick Ross and Meek Mill, and more. A top ten record on the Billboard 200, Wow... That’s Crazy marked a big return for the D.C. icon since the underwhelming commercial sales of 2017’s slept-on body of work Shine.
