Celebrities often display their kindness during the holidays season with giveaways that benefit those less fortunate than they are; this year was no different. In the days before family and friends gathered on Thanksgiving Day, the likes of Quavo, T.I., 42 Dugg, Fivio Foreign, Dreamdoll, Kodak Black, Bobby Shmurda and Snoop Dogg hosted drives that saw them handing out turkeys to residents in their respective hometowns — an action Kevin Gates doesn’t necessarily understand.

On Thanksgiving (Nov. 25), the “Big Gangsta” emcee hopped on his Instagram story to respond to a fan who asked him why he “wasn’t passing out turkeys.”

“Let’s think logically, if I go out here and pass out a bunch of uncooked turkeys, where are they gonna cook ’em?” Gates answered. “I’ll wait.”

Instead, the “2 Phones” rapper decided to give away ziplock bags filled with prepared sandwiches and fruit to random homeless people on the street. “The greatest deed ever is to feed the less fortunate,” he wrote in his IG caption. “May Allah elevate our Rank I love you All #TheBeloved.”

Fans of Gates know that he’s used his platform to give back to people on many occasions. Over the summer, he announced that he was partnering with social-impact platform Propeller for a campaign that would benefit mental health, the fight toward ending mass incarceration, climate justice and other causes that mean a lot to him. The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) —which works toward ending mass incarceration in California — and To Write Love on Her Arms — an organization committed to helping people struggling with depression, addiction and suicide — were among the organizations associated with the campaign.

Gates and his wife Dreka Gates are also founders of their self-titled foundation, which aims to educate youth about depression, mental health, financial hardships and more.
