When the clock strikes midnight (July 30), we’ll finally be able to check out Isaiah Rashad’s sophomore LP The House is Burning, which will see 16 tracks with additional features from YGTUT, Smino, Jay Rock, Jay Worthy, 6LACK, SZA, and more. Just before that album makes landfall, the Top Dawg emcee drops off one more single — the Keanu Beats, Banshee The Great, and Kal Banx-produced cut “From The Garden,” a Lil Uzi Vert-assisted track that many fans first got an earful of back in 2017 during an Instagram live stream. What shouldn’t be a surprise is the level of aggressiveness these two exude on the track, making this perfect for the live stage:

“Came out bustin’, came out puffin’, came out fuckin’ on your cousin, I do all these floozies worser than they daddy, but you love her, you in trouble, I’m Lil Sunny, I’m gon’ barbecue or somethin’, that’s yo’ busy? It ain’t shit, I went shoppin’, left it runnin’, check my hunnids, check my onion, we watch cable at my auntie’s, cause my papa wasn’t trappin’, but my uncle up to somethin’…”

Prior to “From The Garden,” Rashad dropped the singles — and accompanying videos for — “Lay Wit Ya” with Duke Deuce, “Headshots (4r Da Locals),” and “Wat U Sed” with Doechii and Kal Banx. Presumably looking to keep us fed with new music post-hiatus, we also got loose cuts like “Runnin’” with ScHoolboy Q, “Slow Motion Freestyle,” and “200/Warning.” His last — and debut — album The Sun’s Tirade made landfall back in 2016, and boasted 17 cuts with contributions from the likes of SiR, Kendrick Lamar, Zacari, Lance Skiiiwalker, and Kari Faux. Not to say that The House is Burning won’t have replay value for years to come, but it is hopeful that we won’t have to wait as long for another body of work from the Tennessee star.

Check out “From The Garden.”
