Before Pop Smoke’s untimely death, he and Quavo were reportedly working on a joint project. The Migos star revealed the news during a recent Real 92.3 interview in which he and fellow group members, Offset and Takeoff, talked about their newly-released album, Culture III.

Among the various topics discussed were the appearances from posthumous artists Juice WRLD and Pop Smoke, two musicians the group thought was “important” to include on their album. “Light It Up,” the track featuring the Brooklyn star, was only one of many songs Quavo got the chance to create with his late friend. The others, he revealed, were to be part of a Pop and Huncho collaboration album.

“I had a relationship with Pop Smoke, we had a relationship with Pop Smoke, and it was just important,” he said when explaining why the “Mood Swings” rapper was on Culture III. “We had so many records, me and him was bout to make an album. So I just felt like I had to put Pop on there. Rest in Peace to my dawg Pop. We just made so much good music. Us on a New York drill beat is just like magic.”

Fortunately, proof of the “magic” Pop and Quavo created has long been available for fans to hear. The “Workin Me” emcee first collaborated with Pop Smoke on “Shake the Room,” which appeared on the New Yorker’s Meet the Woo 2 EP. He also featured on Pop’s posthumous record, rapping on both “Aim for the Moon” and the Future-assisted “Snitching.” Now, listeners can hear Pop’s bars alongside Migos on their new album.

Culture III is a star-studded project that features the likes of Cardi B, Drake and Justin Bieber, but the song that has most captured JAY-Z’s attention is one that has no guest artists.

“That ‘Avalanche’ song is beautiful. Congrats to you and the guys on the album. Peace God!” JAY texted Quavo, to which the Migos star replied, “Thanks OG. We Put Everything We Had Into This One.”
