Tiger Woods is on the road to recovery after he underwent surgery to treat the leg injuries he sustained from a dangerous car crash.

On Tuesday (Feb. 23), the professional golf player was involved in a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision that caused major damage to his vehicle. Responders used the “jaws of life” to remove him from the wreck, and he was transported to a Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where surgeons catered to multiple injuries on his right leg.

“Mr. Woods suffered orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery,” said Anish Mahajan, Chief Medical Officer and Interim CEO at Harbor-UCLA.

“Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod to the tibia.” Injuries to the bones in Woods’ foot and ankle, and trauma to the muscle and soft issue of the leg were also treated.

Following the surgical procedure, Woods is said to be “currently awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital.” “Thank you to the wonderful doctors and hospital staff at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, the Los Angeles Sheriff County’s Department and the Fire Department,” read a statement on his Twitter page. “Your support and assistance has been outstanding.”

As reported by REVOLT, Woods was in California working with Golf Digest/GOLFTV to shoot content of him “giving on-course lessons to a number of celebrities,” including Dwayne Wade, who has since sent his thoughts and prayers the golf player’s way.

“My prayers go out to him,” Wade said during an appearance on CNN. “Hopefully a speedy recovery for him, and hopefully he gets a chance to get back to doing what he loves to do…that’s playing the game of golf…I’m just thankful that he took the time to be able to teach me a few things about the game.”
