The death of the officer who died in the Capitol Hill riots will be investigated. According to CNN, prosecutors in the US Attorney’s office want to look into the death of Brian D. Sicknick who passed away on Thursday (Jan. 7) “due to injuries sustained while on-duty.”

Sicknick was wounded on Wednesday (Jan. 6) while responding to the siege at the U.S. Capitol. He collapsed after returning to his office, was taken to the hospital and passed away at 9:30 p.m. the following day (Jan. 7). His death is being investigated as a homicide, but authorities believe it could have been triggered by a medical condition.

“Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters. He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” the statement read.

All flags at the U.S. Capitol will be flown at half-staff in the late cop’s honor.

Sicknick is the fifth death connected to the Capitol riots. As REVOLT reported, 14-year U.S. Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit was shot and killed by Capitol Police, while three other people — Benjamin Phillips, Kevin Greeson and Roseanne Boyland — passed away from “medical emergencies.” Another man accidentally tased himself and died as a result of a heart attack.

In addition to Sicknick’s passing, more than 50 police were injured during the Capitol Hill chaos. Four White House staffers, including Former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, announced their resignation, and several Congressman are demanding Trump relinquish his role as president.

“Following the president’s dangerous and seditious acts, Republicans in Congress need to follow that example and call on Trump to depart his office — immediately,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote in a letter. “If the president does not leave office imminently and willingly, the Congress will proceed with our action.”

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Sund will also reportedly resign from his position following the Capitol Hill riots.
