More than 60 arrests were made during a Louisville demonstration meant to honor the life of the late Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old EMT who was gunned down in her home at the hands of police.

The protest was a part of “A Day of Action,” the culmination of BreonnaCon, a four-day event organized by social justice organization Until Freedom to demand justice for Taylor.

Amid the protest, demonstrators walked from the Louisville police training headquarters to the University of Louisville’s Cardinal Stadium where the contention with the police occurred because they were blocking a main road outside of the venue.

Among the many people arrested were Trae tha Truth and reality stars Porsha Williams and Yandy Smith, who posted a video of her arrest on her Instagram page.

If we don’t get no justice

According to Louisville officers, the arrested protesters will be charged with obstructing the roadway and disorderly conduct. As of last night, they remained in police custody and did not yet receive a bond.

Trae tha Truth, Williams and Smith were previously taken into police custody alongside YBN Cordae, Until Freedom co-founder Tamika Mallory and 87 others as they protested outside the home of Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron back in July. Each person was charged with intimidating a participant in a legal process, disorderly conduct 2nd degree and criminal trespass 3rd degree. The felony charges were eventually dropped.

Recently, when addressing critics who questioned the intentions of BreonnaCon and Until Freedom, Mallory stated that one of the organization’s goals is to help keep Taylor’s name and story alive.

She also addressed criticism about the promotional ads that were used to promote the event.

“Yesterday, while we were inside of the women’s empowerment event, the white militia [3 percenters] was outside—about thirty to forty people with weapons,” Mallory told The Root. “While some folks are upset about the name of a conference and a graphic, our lives are in danger because we’re actually physically on the ground not on social media.”
