When Jacob Blake was shot in the back seven times by Kenosha officers on Sunday (Aug. 23), his three sons were there to witness the tragic occurrence.

Amid his recovery and the investigation into the shooting, Donovan Mitchell has stepped in to bring some light into the lives of Blake’s kids.

The Utah Jazz player revealed he has partnered with Adidas and will be donating the money from his latest sneaker release to a college scholarship fund for Blake’s children.

“This one is different for me,” he wrote on Instagram, advertising the new sneakers. “For the first 45 hours of the #DONISSUE2 spidey-sense drop, I will be donating $45k of the proceeds to support the education of Jacob Blake’s children.”

“I’ve also partnered with Adidas who will match my donation for a total of $90k.”

In the video alongside the caption, Mitchell explained the reason behind his decision to donate toward Blake’s children’s education. “Education reform is something I really believe in and I believe will be able to help push our country and our future past the point we’re at.”

“Allowing kids to understand and be able to go into the same classrooms and be able to be taught at a level playing field is something I believe is the key to generational success and being able to push past racism, systemic racism, voter suppression and everything,” he continued.

Adidas also promoted Mitchell’s Spidey-Sense sneakers and confirmed their half of the donation.

Mitchell has been very vocal about his feelings since an unarmed Blake was gunned down by cops. When he learned of the nearly fatal shooting via attorney Benjamin Crump’s Twitter account, he penned in a tweet, “F THE GAMES AND PLAYOFFS!!! THIS IS SICK AND IS A REAL PROBLEM WE DEMAND JUSTICE! ITS CRAZY I DONT HAVE ANY WORDS BUT WTF MAN! THIS IS WHY WE DONT FEEL SAFE!!!!”

He also applauded the Milwaukee Bucks after they announced they were boycotting Game 5 against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday (Aug. 26) night in response to Blake’s shooting.

“WE DEMAND CHANGE! SALUTE Bucks,” he tweeted.

Earlier this week, TMZ reported Blake’s family will decide between two therapists for his children, who they say are in desperate need for professional help after seeing their father get shot.

Mitchell’s donation to the start of their college fund should be some positive news to help brighten their day.
