Melly isn’t letting a jail cell stop him.

It looks like YNW Melly’s got a new project on the way.

On Friday (Aug. 6), the Instagram account for the jailed rapper announced Just a Matter of Slime, a new project featuring appearances from Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Future and more. It will drop next Friday.

“Friday The 13th Melvin coming out to play,” reads the caption for the Florida rapper. “#JustAMatterOfSlime #presave Comment what Song On The Album U Excited for, i might drop it early.”

Melly is currently in jail for a couple of murder charges he caught back in February 2019, but obviously that isn’t stopping him from dropping a new project.

This news arrives five months after Melly released “Thugged Out,” a Kodak Black-assisted song. For his verse on the song, Melly reflects on his upbringing and the way that led to the lifestyle he leads.

“Bitch, I’ve been thuggin’ ever, ever since Gifford Gardens I’ve been the hardest/I’ma go that way regardless/Young nigga real the right way and all my niggas heartless/We aim that pistol at whoever say it’s envy,” Melly raps on the song, which interpolates Trick Daddy’s classic 2001 single “I’m a Thug.”

While Melly is able to drop a project now, he faced a lot of adversity at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. In April of last year, the rapper’s team reported that he’d tested positive for the virus, and around that same time, his team tried to get him released to house arrest because of the way his pre-existing health issues could exacerbate any symptoms.

“Melly has tested positive for COVID-19 today while awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail,” the post from his team reads. “He’ll be filing a motion for restricted release in hopes of better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus. He hopes for your support and to recover soon #prayformelly send positive energy to him please.”
