Despite his current incarceration, YNW Melly continues to push forward and deliver new music to his fans. His latest is the Mazouz Beats-produced cut “Thugged Out,” which features an assist from fellow Floridian Kodak Black and flips Trick Daddy’s classic Thugs Are Us single “I’m A Thug.” In addition to rapping about their respective lifestyles, the track also sees Kodak showing support to his collaborator:

“Free Melly, I’m in the same old boat, I’ma need some dope, I slide the C.O. a note, I got a few niggas who hidin’ in PC, ’cause they already knowin’ it’s up when they see me, speakin’ sign language to my brother, told him to make me another cutter, my mind in the gutter, I ain’t no slime, but I fuck with YNW, thugged out the greater, caught eleven hundred cases, I can’t guarantee you safety, ‘cause shit could go down, baby/”

“Thugged Out” also sees an accompanying clip courtesy of DrewFilmedIt that begins with Kodak and his crew on a yacht, talking to YNW Melly via phone. In addition to a somewhat whimsical story involving a robbery, the clip continues to show Kodak & Co. living their best lives — Trick Daddy makes a cool cameo as well.

YNW Melly’s new single marks his first since the release of his 2019 debut LP Melly Vs. Melvin, a 14-track offering that saw additional features from Foreign Teck, Tonk With Tha Gift, and 9lokkNine. That same year also saw Melly and YNW Bortlen charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy the prior year. Various outlets have also reported that the rappers are linked to the shooting death of deputy police offer Gary Chambliss in their hometown.
