Bobby Shmurda just became Team Roc.

In a Friday (Aug. 13) report from The New York Times, it’s confirmed that Shmurda has signed a management deal with Roc Nation’s management team. It’s also reported that he’s been in the studio with DaBaby, Migos and Swae Lee as he’s worked on his forthcoming debut album.

At the time he was arrested in December 2014, Bobby was on his way to legit stardom. Riding the momentum of “Hot Nigga”—a song that was essentially a freestyle over a Jahlil Beats instrumental originally used by Lloyd Banks—Shmurda had earned a record deal with Epic Records before he was put behind bars with Rowdy Rebel and several other members of his GS9 crew. Now, he’s all set to pick up where he left off and level up like never before.

Last month, he rocked the crowd at Rolling Loud Miami as he showcased his signature Shmoney dance and performed “Hot Nigga” and “Bobby Bitch.” Now that he’s been in the studio and he’s signed with Roc Nation Management, he should have new songs to perform in the near future.

This news arrives six months after Bobby was released from prison after serving nearly seven years in prison for conspiracy and weapons charges. Speaking with The Times, Mike Brinkley, who operates as a senior vice president of Roc Nation’s artist management team, spoke on Bobby’s willingness to engage in the whole process.

“He’ll ask questions and not just ask but actually comprehend,” said the Roc Nation management team member. “Meeting him for the first time, you can’t even fathom what he went through because he doesn’t wear it. He’s like, ‘I’m here to work, what do you need me to do?’”

There’s no word on when the Brooklyn rapper will drop his new album, but stay tuned for when he does.
