Teyana Taylor may have retired from music, but accolades are still rolling in from the highly-praised records she blessed fans with during the tenure of her career. According to the RIAA, the songstress’ single “Gonna Love Me” from her K.T.S.E. album has sold the equivalence of one million copies in the United States, becoming the singer’s first platinum record ever!

Though fans and fellows celebrities have expressed their appreciation for Taylor’s art, the singer’s exclusion from the 2021 Grammy nominations incited her decision to stop singing. Shortly after criticizing the Recording Academy for failing to name women artists in the category for Best R&B Album, she announced her retirement, noting she felt “overlooked” and “underappreciated,“ specifically by her record label of 10 years.

“Baby, I gotta do it for my mental health. I have to do it for my emotional health,” she explained. “I have to do it for my kids, so I can stay alive for my kids.”

Taylor has since tapped into her hustler spirit as well as her many other talents and skills to stay afloat and make a name for herself outside of music. The K.T.S.E star recently launched a clothing line with Pretty Little Thing, where she is now a creative director. She is preparing for the March 5 release of Coming 2 America and has been chosen by Dionne Warwick to one day reenact the legend’s life story in a biopic.

Her creativity has been displayed in videos she’s directed, including “Nasty” featuring Rich the Kid, Mulatto, Flo Milli and Rubi Rose. She is also in the process of building a studio for her The Aunties Inc. production company.

“Although I closed certain chapters in 2020, I’m blessed with the book of opportunity,” she previously told fans. “Entering my dirty 30 with my husband gifting me with my very own movie camera…to bringing in the new year closing on my very own compound with my partner in crime and Co-Founder of The Aunties Inc @coco_gilbert. We, The Aunties are proud to announce, Aunties 360, a 5-acre lot that includes production, dance, recording, prop studios, equipment and 360 green screen rooms for creatives!”

Congratulations to Taylor on her platinum single!
