Teyana Taylor says she’s “retiring” from this chapter in her career after feeling “super underappreciated” as an artist. While sharing her Spotify Wrapped stats on Instagram, the “Bare Wit Me” songstress thanked her fans for their support while expressing her frustration with her lack of recognition in the industry.

“Wow, who did that? Y’all did that!” she wrote, referring to her streaming numbers. “Thank you. I ain’t gone front in times of feeling super underappreciated as a[n] artist, receiving little to no real push from the ‘machine,’ constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked, I mean the list on and on lol...”

Taylor may be referring to recently being left out of the 2021 Grammy nominations. Despite releasing The Album this summer, which bowed out at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, the Harlem native received zero nominations for the upcoming awards ceremony. After the perceived snub, Taylor called out the Recording Academy for its lack of female nominees in the Best R&B Album category.

“I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world!” Taylor continued in her post, to her fans’ dismay. “To all my supporters from day 1 & all my new ones I love you and I thank you for everything.”

Although Taylor may be done releasing music, the multi-hyphen didn’t close the door on all of her creative pursuits.

“All hustlers have the understanding that when one door closes another will open,” she concluded her message. “Either that or I’m pickin da locks petunia!!!”

Fans quickly flooded Taylor’s comments asking her to reconsider. Taylor’s third studio album, The Album, featured collaborations with Erykah Badu, Big Sean, Kehlani, Missy Elliott, Future, Ms. Lauryn Hill and more, including Taylor’s husband and daughter — Iman and Junie. Taylor welcomed her second daughter, Rue Rose, this September and won Video Director of the Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards the following month.
