Cardi B’s rise from internet sensation to Grammy award-winning rapper was a journey many enjoyed watching partly because she’s relatable and made us laugh along the way. In fact, Chris Rock believed the Bronx native’s sense of humor and authentic personality would have served her well in the comedy world.

The comedian recently made an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” where he revealed he met Cardi in her heyday and pushed for her to pursue a career in comedy, noting he even tried to get her a show on network television.

“My kids showed me this Cardi B girl, and she didn’t have a record out or anything, and I was like, ‘We should do a show with her.’ I’m not even gonna say what network,” Rock told Fallon. “So me, Cardi B and her management went to get a show going, and it never happened. She told me about her rap at the time, and I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, that’s good. You’re a comedy star.’”

“I think Cardi B is one of the funniest people. It’s like…[Dave] Chappelle, Cardi, you know what I mean?” he continued. “Like in the standings right now, who are the funniest people in the world? Cardi’s right up there! She’s neck and neck with Bill Burr. She’s good, man…Cardi can hang with anybody.”

Rock’s excitement about Cardi’s comedic skills mirrors his enthusiasm for his friend Busta Rhymes’ upcoming album. Last month, he took to social media to get fans ready for Extinction Level Event 2. “You n***as can’t fuck with the god Busta Rhymes,” Rock sang to the tune of Chopin’s “Marche Funèbre.” Alongside the video, he penned the caption, “It’s official @bustarhymes new album is titled #ELE2. Coming soon….”
