Killer Mike was the target of some online criticism after his meeting with the Georgia governor.
On Wednesday (Sept. 9), Gov. Brian Kemp announced that he and the activist met up and discussed various topics related to Georgia and its residents.
“Today, Marty and I had a great meeting with @KillerMike,” he penned on Twitter. “We discussed how small businesses and the music industry are weathering the pandemic, the value of our skilled trade workers, and our fight to end human trafficking in Georgia. We look forward to seeing him again soon!”
Mike’s visit with Kemp, who won the election against Stacy Abrams and banned mandated face masks amid COVID-19, led to some online controversy.
“Why would Killer Mike allow himself to be used as a prop for a racist ass white man who will do nothing for the Black community?” one tweet read.
“Killer Mike attempting to brand himself as the Reasonable Negro™ by meeting with a white man who stole an election from a Black woman and then denied the impact of COVID[-19],” read another tweet. “Very reasonable.”
Others chimed in the conversation in defense of Mike, noting the meeting does not indicate his support for Kemp.
“Criticizing Killer Mike for meeting with a member of a political faction that he or you may not agree with shows just how much y’all have no idea how politics works, how basic human interaction on a higher level works & your level of emotional & cognitive immaturity,” a user wrote.
“Y’all not going to start the morning slandering Killer Mike,” tweeted a Killer Mike fan. “Fuck this app. Y’all dumb. You gotta get in the office first to make changes. He knows what he’s doing. Wtf have y’all done with your lives?”
The activist eventually chimed in and responded to various tweets that questioned his intentions.
When asked whether he spoke to Kemp on the behalf of the Black community, he responded, “After I sought counsel from community activists that I know and have worked with over 20 yrs, Black judges and lawyers, Black biz leaders and my neighbors, I absolutely did.”
In another tweet, he confirmed he met with Kemp because he pays taxes and owns businesses in Georgia. “I’m checking up on my dollars at work. I also meet with my city council member, state rep and mayor,” he tweeted before suggesting “all Georgians do the same.”
In a third response, Mike was asked whether he believes Kemp cares about his concerns. “Only time will tell in the mean time I plan to keep doing what was on that tee shirt I wore,” he wrote, referring to his shirt with the words “plot, plan, strategize, organize and mobilize.” “We all Must!”
