“It was kind of weird shooting the video in the age of Corona[virus],” Cardi said in an interview with i-D. “We had to spend $100,000 dollars just on testing. Everybody on the shoot had to get tested for Coronavirus.”
In regards to the tiger and leopard scenes, Cardi was not taking any chances. Though it seems like the cats are in the same room as the women rappers, it was only edited to look that way. Cardi filmed the scenes without the animals in the room for security purposes.
It’s no surprise the “Press” star spent so much money to protect herself from COVID-19. At the start of the pandemic, she admitted to hoarding supplies so she’d be fully prepared for what’s to come. Later down the line, Offset’s uncle died from the virus, and she suffered emotionally after learning someone close to her had contracted it. “Somebody around me caught Coronavirus so I had to quarantine myself,” she said. “I couldn’t be around my kid for two weeks and a half; it was just a lot. It was very overwhelming.”
Since its release, “WAP” has already amassed 13 million views on YouTube. Cardi thanked her fans for the love and support she’s received thus far and has individually shown love to all of the women who took their time to be in her video.
Though she posted a clip of her sharing some ideas with her team on Instagram, more exclusive content regarding the video and all things Cardi will be found on her newly created OnlyFans account.
