Black Twitter slams Grammys for snubbing The Weeknd, Brandy and more

The Weeknd, Kehlani, Brandy and more were not nominated for any Grammys despite receiving praise for their albums.

The Grammy Award nominations were announced on Tuesday (Nov. 24). Queen Bey earned nine nominations, making her the front-runner for the upcoming award ceremony, and Megan Thee Stallion and Freddie Gibbs became first-time Grammy nominees. Music fans, however, are taking issue with artists that worked hard this year and didn’t receive any Grammy nods.

In a newly-developed Twitter category titled “Robbed,” people reacted to the latest Grammy snubs, which included The Weeknd whose “Blinding Lights” single topped the Billboard charts.

“Abel was robbed man,” Kid Cudi tweeted following the announcement. “This shit’s weak.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Abel got robbed. God, I can’t do this. The white men ruin everything.”

Others claimed Kehlani — who released her album It Was Good Until It Wasn’t earlier this year — deserved a nomination. When the singer expressed her gratitude for being part of many of the albums that were nominated, a Twitter user responded, “You were robbed. Just saying.”

Another tweet read, “Absolutely trash that Kehlani or JoJo wasn’t nominated for one R&B or song category for the Grammy’s. They had two of the best albums of the year PERIOD!! Vocals, Production, Concepts.. all of it! My girls were ROBBED!”

Brandy’s B7 album wasn’t nominated, and despite praises for her work on The Album, Teyana Taylor walked away with no nods.

Brandy took 8 years of her life to invest on this project, and it’s not an award underestimation thats going to stop her or us from support her!” a Brandy fanpage tweeted.

Taylor even took to Twitter to react to the category for Best R&B Album. She tweeted, “Y’all was better off just saying best MALE R&B ALBUM cause all I see is dick in this category.”
