Rihanna fans have been dying for the singer to drop a new album or at least provide an update on when they can expect new music. Fortunately, they have now received the latter.

The ANTI star spoke to the Associated Press about the status of her album and her thought process when she’s creating new music.

During the conversation, she admitted she’s held “tons of writing camps” where songwriters have teamed up to create orginal tracks for her, but she’s tyring to figure out her vision, the messages she wants to relay and the best way to execute them both.

“What do I feel personally?” she began. “What do I want to put out, and as an artist, how do I want to play it with my art? How do I want to interpret that? How do I want to reimagine it because it’s been so structured before.”

Rihanna explained that amid all the chaos in the world, she just wants to make music that makes her “happy.”

“You do pop, you did this genre, you do that, you do radio, but now it’s just like, what makes me happy?” she continued. “I just want to have fun with music. Everything is so heavy. The world that we live in is a lot. It’s overwhelming every single day, and with the music, I’m using that as my outlet.”

The Coronavirus pandemic has hindered Rihanna’s ability to interact with fans on tour and film videos as she once did, but she’s determined to push forward.

“I want to go on tour, but I can’t, so I’m stuck with music that I love, and now I’m trying to figure out how I can even create visuals to that,” she said. “That’s a challenge as well, but I love challenges so, you know, I’m gonna get it done.”

Rihanna is known to tease fans who’ve bombarded her social media with questions about her upcoming album.

Last year, she updated a post on her Instagram Story of her waving a wad of cash and blowing a kiss to the camera. “Where the album?” she wrote. “Me: sorry my connection poor.”

Then, earlier this year, when a fan asked her about her upcoming project, she responded saying she “lost it.”

Rihanna’s last album ANTI came out in 2016. She has since featured on DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Loyalty,” N.E.R.D.’s “Lemon” Future’s “Selfish and most recently, PartyNextDoor’s “Believe It.”
