Back in February, Trae Tha Truth and his hip hop activist compadre Mysonne connected for the joint body of work If You’re Scared Stay Inside, a 14-track offering with additional features from Jim Jones, Black Thought, Jay’ton, TJ Boyce, Pastor Stephen A. Green, and more. While promoting the project and other community-backed efforts, Trae and Mysonne made an appearance on REVOLT’s “Drink Champs,” where he opened up about he and Z-Ro’s long-standing Assholes By Nature movement:

“You gotta realize, everything I represent came from the gang culture ... The only difference is, coming up where I’m from, I was the one that brought all the gangs together. ... That’s what ABN really is, and the power of how I transformed it is I’m still in the streets everyday. Even though I do what I do, the reason they love me is because they know that trust is instilled in me.”

This past weekend, the Houston legend officially follows that with his latest mixtape 48 Hours After, the latest installment of Trae’s well-received 48 Hours series — the first of which made landfall a literal decade ago. The project sees production handled by Moxiii Double Dee and 20K The Producer, along with contributions from Lil’ Keke, Big Pokey, Jared, Baby Houston, and late hip hop icon DJ Screw, who makes a posthumous appearance on the opening cut “Screw Tha World.”

In addition to the music, Trae has continued to remain a true leader for the marginalized by both creating business opportunities and providing resources for his people. Not too long ago, it was announced that he would be teaming up with James Harden to provide “Trae Day” scholarships for individuals in need of higher education-based financial assistance. He’s also stood tall on the front lines during various Black Lives Matter protests.
