College students are the target of Trae Tha Truth’s latest act of charity. In a video posted on his Instagram page, the Houston native told his followers that he and NBA star James Harden will be lending a helping hand to individuals struggling to pay the costs of higher education.

“Proud To Announce This TraeDay Weekend, I will Be Teaming Up With @jharden13, And We Decided To Give Out 10 TraeDay Scholarships To [High School] Graduates Accepted Into College or Already in College To Assist With Academics,” he captioned his post. Per the application, students must have a financial hardship to be considered for the scholarship.

They must also prove that they’re attending school in the fall, are required to attend Trae Day and must write a 250-word essay about what the scholarship would mean to them.

The announcement of the Trae Day scholarships aligns with the activist’s reputation. For the last 20 years, he’s given back to his community during and after natural disasters like the deadly winter storm that took place in home state of Texas. He has also stood on the frontlines of Black Lives Matter protests. His charitable efforts earned him a Billboard award last month.

As REVOLT previously reported, Tina Knowles-Lawson presented Trae with the Billboard Change Maker Award — an honor for his philanthropic work and social justice advocacy.

“Trae exemplifies what it means to be the change you want to see,” Datwon Thomas, BBMAs consulting producer, said in a statement. “He is always in a city near you, helping those in need after natural disasters, fighting for justice after tragic events and giving supplies to families to make it to another day. His name ‘Tha Truth’ fits perfectly with who he is as a community activist, and we are honored to celebrate his tireless efforts and giving spirit.”

The deadline to submit applications for the Trae Day scholarships is on July 5. See Trae Tha Truth’s Instagram post below.
