It’s somewhat astounding how relevant Shakka has remained throughout the years without an official album in his catalog. We did get The Shakka Crown Affair back in 2011, as well as a slew of top quality mixtapes like The Lost Boys, The Island, and – most recently – last year’s Cabin Fever. There has also been a slew of hit singles from the British talent, including “Rollin’” with Frisco, “Man Down” with AlunaGeorge, “Sugar Cane,” “Too Bad Bad” with Mr Eazi, “SOS,” and “Rest of My Life” with Sigma — add to that the infectious number, “When You Pull Up,” that made landfall at the start of the year. Fast-forward to last month, when Shakka blesses the masses with a fresh cut titled “Solo,” a collaboration with DMV star GoldLink that’s based on a relationship where physical lines have been crossed:

“Sex with friends is dangerous, them kinda games weren’t made for us, left your man, then said what’s up, guess that’s when I was eyeing you up, never do flings with day ones, now I’m in your bed, we ain’t take no time, time, time, time…”

This month, fans get to check out a matching visual courtesy of Ray Fiasco, which takes the viewer to the beautiful beaches of Accra, Ghana, where we see Shakka following a love interest in and around different locations in the African city — GoldLink also makes a quick-strike, nighttime appearance for his verse. Via press release, Shakka further explained the concept:

“Just like many others, I spent 2020 in London under a nationwide lockdown so I wanted the video for ‘Solo’ to feel like a paradise; to feel like the moment we’re all able to reconnect and see the outside world again … This whole experience is a romanticist’s pursuit of love…”
