Back in September, Big Sean unveiled his fifth studio album Detroit 2, a 21-track tour de force that saw a slew of assists from the likes of Dom Kennedy, Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign, Anderson .Paak, Wale, Young Thug, REVOLT’s own Diddy, Travis Scott, Erykah Badu, belle Jhené Aiko, and many of his current Motor City peers. In addition to positive reviews, the project landed Sean his third number one placement on the Billboard 200 thanks to 103,000 album equivalent units sold during his first week of release.

Today, the G.O.O.D. Music star decided to surprise us all with a new visual from Detroit 2 for “Deep Reverence,” an early promotional single that features the late Nipsey Hussle. Produced by johan lenox, Rogét Chahayed, G. Ry, Audio Anthem, and Hit-Boy, the track sees the two opening up about personal and professional struggles:

“Fuck rap, I’m a street legend, block love me with a deep reverence, I was birthed in a C-section, hella cops and police presence, we got opps so we keep weapons, we on y’all block while y’all eat breakfast/

A lot of shots, we broke street records, watch how you talk, I got reflexes, watchin’ your cheap necklace, then we slide out the East exit, but every time we get to fuckin’ niggas up, TMZ catch it.../”

The world continues to reel from the loss of Nipsey Hussle, who was tragically killed in front of his own business in 2019. A year prior, he released his official debut LP Victory Lap, a widely considered masterpiece and boasted singles like “Rap Niggas,” “Last Time That I Checc’d,” “Hussle & Motivate,” and “Double Up.” Among the many notable contributions on the Billboard top 5 release, it would be impossible not to mention Diddy’s inclusion on the standout cut “Young Nigga.”
