In the midst of the current chaos, will.i.am brings forth some positive inspiration for the youth. This week, the Black Eyed Peas frontman liberates his latest drop “AMERICAN DREAM,” which sees him singing from the perspective of marginalized kids looking to find success through continued education:

“Everyone agrees that future is technology, and I want to be up to speed, so give me that education I need, just give me that STEM, that STEAM, teach me the skills that I will need, to unlock all the roadblocks and get that master’s degree/

And fill the workforce vacancy, and introduce brand new industries, because the jobs of the future, are gonna come from someone just like me.../”

The visual keeps things fairly simple, with shots of will.i.am interspersed with young men and women who are all dressed in black while singing along to the lyrics, as different graphics adds to the overall message around them.

Proceeds from “AMERICAN DREAM” go to will.i.am’s i.am.angel Foundation, which — as his GoFundMe explains — is designed to “help at-risk students get access to quality education so they can, in turn, lift up their families and communities.” Viewers can also see graduates of the program from the past few years as well as a breakdown of how the money would be spent, further ensuring exactly where donations are going.

Just before the new year arrived, REVOLT reported about recent comments made my will.i.am to Wyclef Jean in regards to the masses not viewing the Black Eyed Peas as a Black group, which polarized many (including from former BEP member Kim Hill):

“I’m a Black dude, but when you think of Black Eyed Peas, we got so big that...and it hurts, it still hurts a little bit that we’re not considered a Black group because we got that big.”
