DJ Megan Ryte has recruited A$AP Ferg and Will.i.am for her latest single, “Culture.” The track addresses issues like racism and cultural appropriation, and the Nabil-directed the black-and-white video for the track is shown through the perspective of a “culture vulture.” On the song, A$AP delivers a hook that makes the message crystal clear:

They hate our melanin and culture. We run shit, sports and culture. Try to take all our souls and culture. For every n***a that they locked we got the culture. Want us in the food desert, with the soda. Till I pull up with the, like a soldier. Everybody in the hood getting over. Fuck the vultures (Skrrt-skrtt).

In September, A$AP Ferg released his latest body of work Floor Seats II, which originally saw 10 new tracks from the Harlem star and features from Diddy, Marilyn Manson, Tyga, Mulatto, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Fivio Foreign, and more. Floor Seats II follows last year’s EP Floor Seats. “Culture” is the first single from Ryte’s forthcoming debut album, set to drop in early 2021 via her new Ryte Way Music label, supported by Platoon.

Coinciding with the release, Megan made sure to explain what the intention was behind the single:

“This song is a statement record that recognizes the importance of Black cultural contributions around the world. With Will.i.am and ASAP Ferg lending their voices to the track … I’m doing it for the culture … I’m so excited for this single to be the first release off of my album. Not only did Will.i.am and Ferg kill it but Nabil is such an amazing visionary and he brought the song to life! My debut album represents me as a DJ but also as a label owner, executive, A&R, producer, and all-around creative.”
