2019 was a banner year for Burna Boy. During that period, the Nigerian star delivered his fourth studio album African Giant, an immaculate blend of Afrobeat, dancehall, pop and hip hop that hit charts all over the globe. The project boasted 19 tracks and features from Jeremih, Jorja Smith, Damian Marley, Future, YG and more and earned Burna Boy a wealth of awards. He also spent that year contributing his talents via a slew of feature appearances, crafting hits with the likes of Beyoncé, Dave, Mahalia, IDK and Stormzy — the last of whose collaboration “Own It” earned a UK platinum plaque and charted in almost 20 different countries. All-in-all, his accomplishments have solidified his place as one of the biggest stars out, both from Nigeria and from an international perspective.
Now, Burna Boy makes his first entry of the new year with “Odogwu,” named after the Igbo term for “hero” or “victor” in English. The genre-bending cut features production from Lagos producer Kel P and sees the artist telling the listener to never stop pushing forward towards your eventual victory:
“When I reach Igbo land them calling me Odogwu/
And as I enter the town I put am for egwu/
And nobody can stop you, na so we dey fly pass oh/
Over any obstacle e be Odogwu…/”
This May, Burna Boy will also be hitting the road on his “Twice As Tall Tour,” which kicks off in May and will see him in several different countries until the end of August. Both “Odogwu” and his tour schedule can be found below.
