Last month, DJ Kay Slay released his latest project Homage, which boasts nine cuts and additional assists from a wealth of features, including Sheek Louch, Styles P, Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, Busta Rhymes, Juicy J, Jim Jones, Trae Tha Truth, Royce da 5’9”, the late Fred The Godson, and more. This past weekend, the legendary DJ dropped off a visual for the mixtape closer “Street Life,” a collaboration with Dave East, Vado, and Julian Morgan. The Trackateering Music-produced track sees the artists showing their appreciation for their significant others, who remained loyal to them even through the worst of times.
The accompanying visual comes courtesy of Benji Filmz and shows the collaborators in New York by the water, performing the track while a voluptuous woman shows them love in the background. Elsewhere, a man robs a person of his jewelry, is shot in response, and goes to jail — all while his significant other holds him down.
In addition to Homage, this year also saw DJ Kay Slay released the project Living Legend, which features many of the aforementioned emcees alongside Big K.R.I.T., A$AP Ferg, Bun B, Queen Latifah, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and more. His last official studio album, Hip Hop Frontline, made landfall in January of last year.
As previously reported by REVOLT, DJ Kay Slay previously spoke on being an OG in the rap game:
“In this current time, me being an older cat, a lot of people from the modeling game, to the artists, to the to the DJs, a lot of people always come to me for advice... Even people on Instagram that’s trying to get into the business, they always come to me. They say ‘uncle’ or big brother.’ The uncle thing sounds a little too old.”
