After originally sharing the song back in August, Monica has just unleashed the music video for her Lil Baby-assisted “Trenches” single. The track arrived at the heels of the legendary Verzuz battle between Monica and Brandy. On the song, Lil Baby spits his lovesick verse:

Love is what you make it, I’ll give you my heart if you promise that you won’t break it. I’ma keep it real with everyone, it ain’t no fakin’. I was tryna give it to you, you was tryna take it, and you cannot run from reality, gotta face it. I been tryna do everything for you to just make it. Don’t care what people say, especially when they talk crazy. Don’t play with me, I’m Baby.

“Trenches” debuted at number 32 on Billboard’s Hot 100 component Digital Song Sales chart, becoming Monica’s first entry on the chart since 2008’s “Still Standing.” The song also opened at number 2 on the R&B Digital Song Sales. Monica can most recently be heard on A$AP Ferg’s most recent project on the song “Big A$AP.” In 2019, she dropped off her singles “Me + You” and “Commitment” and her last full length project Code Red made landfall five years ago.

Back in May, Lil Baby released his chart-topping 2020 project My Turn and its deluxe version, which included features from 42 Dugg, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo, Young Thug, and Rylo Rodriguez. The project went on to go double platinum. In March, he also accomplished an impressive feat, as he locked in another Hot 100 hit and is now able to claim he has as many Hot 100 hits as the legendary Prince. He can also be heard on other 2020 projects like Pop Smoke’s Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon, Polo G’s The Goat, Gunna’s Wunna, and NAV’s Emergency Tsunami.
