Often times, people turn to music as a way to cope with extreme pain. On DaBaby’s new project My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G), the North Carolina artist opens up about his feelings in the wake of losing his 34-year old brother Glenn Johnson to gunshot wounds at the top of this month. The new project includes seven new songs and features from Meek Mill, Polo G, Nocap, and Toosi.

On the intro track, DaBaby reflects on the memories he has with his older sibling:

You was the oldest so you got it first. I was the baby so I got it easy. Remember us cussin’ and fightin’ in church. Knowin’ damn well that as soon as we leave. The look mommy gave us, knew we was gettin’ hurt. One hand on the wheel and the other one swingin’. Get hit in the mouth, okay, momma, I’m bleedin’, Jesus. Bruh, I been hurt, ain’t had no feelings since we lost you. Feel like a prisoner of my mind, no one to talk to. Never let depression go unchecked, that shit’ll cost you. Baby bro gon’ walk down on any n***a ever crossed you.

Earlier this year, DaBaby revealed his third studio LP BLAME IT ON BABY, which included 13 new tracks from the North Carolina star and collaborations alongside Quavo, Future, Roddy Ricch, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Megan Thee Stallion, and more. Prior to BLAME IT ON BABY, DaBaby dropped both KIRK and also his breakthrough project Baby On Baby both in 2019. In May, he and Roddy Ricch celebrated as their single “Rockstar” became certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Recently, the rapper hopped on Dua Lipa’s “Levitating (Remix).”
