Earlier this week, DaBaby took to social media to announce a surprise album would drop today (April 17) titled Blame It On Baby. The year 2019 was prolific for the Charlotte rapper. He dropped Baby On Baby about a year ago and followed up with Kirk a short six months later. Both albums went platinum and Kirk made it to No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

This year has been full of surprises so far, as well. If the cover art is any indication, the rapper’s new project likely came about due to having more time on his hands to hit the studio in recent weeks, thanks to social distancing.

On the cover art, DaBaby appears with a mask covering his signature grill, hinting at the current Coronavirus pandemic. So, from the looks of it, he’s been putting his time to good use.

News of this album first broke when he hinted at the project on his Twitter page on Monday (April 13). The two-word tweet merely stated, “THIS FRIDAY!” followed by two emojis, one which was a CD.

Fresh off his feature on Lil Yachty’s “Oprah’s Bank Account,” DaBaby is back with a whole album’s worth of new tracks. Blame It On Baby features the lead single “Shut Up” and the follow up “Find My Way,” both of which arrived earlier this year. Ever the clever marketer, DaBaby teased a video for the album on social media where fans could call a 1-800 number and blame him for all of their problems.

Such a stunt is on brand for the “Suge” rapper, well known for his sense of humor and unpredictable antics. The Billion Dollar Baby CEO released this album, his third, via Interscope and South Coast Music Group. If this release is considered part of a pattern, fans can possibly expect another DaBaby album later this year, as well.
