Just before October hit, a song by Benny The Butcher and Lil Wayne was leaked to the internet, instantly building hype for both an official release by the duo and a forthcoming album by the Griselda star. This week, it’s been revealed that the Hit-Boy-produced track — titled “Timeless” — will in fact belong on Benny The Butcher’s new album Burden of Proof, which has yet to see a release date. Today, fans get to enjoy the hard-hitting cut that now also boasts an incredible verse from none other than Big Sean, who more than certainly holds his own lyrically:
“I do this for the ones that’s barely survivin’, watchin’ me, livin’ through me, so I gotta stay thrivin’, this s*** a privilege, not promised, dead honest ‘cause I can’t let s*** live on my conscious/
To multiply, give it mine and divide it, you gotta move fast, think faster, lately, my life been a lot of losses and less laughter, to paint the picture, I can’t look the same in my before and afters, honestly, I’m probably gon’ be booked ‘til I’m on the next chapter.../”
Also notable is a line from Big Sean that admits to signing a “slave deal,” which adds to the discussion of Black music ownership that’s been pushed on social media by Sean’s own label boss, Kanye West.
Burden of Proof will follow Benny’s 2019 EP The Plugs I Met, which saw seven tracks and additional appearances from Black Thought, 38 Spesh, Jadakiss, Pusha T, fellow Griselda comrade Conway The Machine, and more. His official debut studio LP, Tana Talk 3, made landfall the prior year.
