This Friday (October 30), Queen Naija will release her debut studio album missunderstood, which will see 18 cuts and is led by the singles “Pack Lite,” “Lie To Me” with Lil Durk, “Love Language,” and “Butterflies Pt. 2.” Today, she gifts one more single to the masses titled “Bitter,” which features Mulatto and sees the two looking to move forward in life after a toxic relationship:

“Finna get twisted with my friends, n***a f*** you and that b***h, I know what you been on, so I had to cut you off, tried to give you good love, but you grimey, promise that you ain’t gon know where to find me/

I swear it hurt at the time but it was timely, had to get all the bulls*** behind me, you know, I put you first, and you were the worst, you never deserved my love…/”

Prior to that, she was a contestant on “American Idol” before earning her initial fame through YouTube as one-half of “Chris and Queen” alongside her then-husband Chris Sails. Following a highly-publicized break-up, Queen Naija then developed her own following, eventually turning her trials and tribulations into the breakthrough hit “Medicine” — which ended up on her self-titled EP in 2018. Now, she looks to make even bigger waves with missunderstood.

Speaking to American Songwriter, Queen Naija explained what she was looking to create with the forthcoming release:

“What I wanted was a classic album … I wanted to peel off more layers of who I am. I’m not just a girl who’s been cheated on. I’ve had more things happen to me, I can vouch for more than just that. I know that’s a sad thing but there’s more I can use to empower women, and people, in general.”
