What’s up? It’s officially September and as the summer winds down, I’d like to close out my “High Fashion Summer Series” with a pair of Louis Vuitton sneakers designed by the late Virgil Abloh. Even though the brand has entered a new era with Pharrell Williams as its creative director, many of the codes and designs established by Abloh continue to dominate and set the tone across the market — footwear, especially. The LV Skate Sneaker first debuted in the F/W 2022 show and is the latest addition to the brand’s beloved Skate Sneaker collection. Let’s get into this week’s “Kickin Facts” review.

Inspired by ’90s skate shoes, culture, and Abloh’s love for skateboarding, Louis Vuitton‘s new offering boasts a full black upper of grained calf leather, braided double laces, and a rubber outsole. The LV Skate Sneaker features include an oversized flower monogram on the side and the outsole, updated from the last version, and other LV house motifs by the heel. Additionally, a tag can be found in place of traditional lace locks with the “Vuitton since 54” logo on the tongue and back. Lastly, the shoe was made in Italy and is available in black, red, marine, and beige. It is an elevated take on traditional skate sneakers delivered through the high fashion lens as only a major fashion house could.

The LV Skate Sneaker is a testament to Abloh’s design language and his team of creators as far as how he was able to merge many different subcultures and synthesize them into products. The world is still reeling from the icon’s untimely passing and for many, his leadership at Louis Vuitton was one of his most defining eras.

What are your thoughts on the pair? Would you cop?

The Louis Vuitton Skate Sneaker is now available in four colorways at louisvuitton.com for $1,340.
