It’s only been a couple of months Young Roddy dropped off the well-received EP God Family Money, a 7-track body of work with additional contributions from Jamaal, Curren$y, and Smoke DZA. Last week, the Louisiana star followed that with his latest single “Out The Hood,” a Camoflauge Monk-produced offering that features Griselda’s own Conway The Machine and sees the two emcees telling vivid stories about individual and family struggles:

“It’s hard in the Big Easy, ain’t shit easy, I use to watch my uncle hide that money in the deep freezer, he use to give me game, he always solo in his two-seater, his favorite quote, ‘One life to live’, he kept him two heaters, he said he not in no beef, but he kept a piece, got a baby at the crib who need to eat, got a lady at the crib, see that’s his queen, got a brother but that nigga in the bing…”

Upon its arrival, God Family Money followed 2019’s Plan of Attack, Roddy’s collaborative effort alongside former Jet Life comrades Curren$y and Trademark Da Skydiver. A year prior, Roddy delivered another EP, Uncommon, and the second installment of his and Jamaal’s Hood Gospel series — his last official solo LP, Face The World, made landfall in 2018 as well. Meanwhile, Conway The Machine dropped off La Maquina back in April, which contained 11 cuts and assists from Westside Gunn, Benny the Butcher, 2 Chainz, Ludacris, JID, Elcamino, and more. This year also saw Conway team up with Big Ghost Ltd for If It Bleeds It Can Be Killed. Currently, the Buffalo emcee is preparing to release his sophomore album God Don’t Make Mistakes, expected to made landfall sometime before year’s end.

In the meantime, check out Young Roddy and Conway The Machine’s “Out The Hood.”
