Following what might be one of the best freestyles this year, Big Sean has teamed up with close collaborator Hit-Boy for the joint EP What You Expect, which comes with six tracks (including the recently released “What A Life”) and additional assists from Babyface Ray, 42 Dugg, Bryson Tiller, and Lil Durk — the last two of whom appear on the standout cut “Loyal To A Fault.” Co-produced by Pitt Tha Kid, Rogét Chahayed, G. Ry, Don Cannon, BRYVN, and Ace G., “Loyal To A Fault” sees the artists baring their hearts about the downsides of maintaining love for those to the point of toxicity:

“If I can’t cut you out, I cut you off, bein’ honest to you only left me scarred, I’m done apologizin’ for some shit that’s not my fault, really, realized I need your all and none at all, nothin’ hurts forever, that’s just how the game goes, can’t be out here lookin’ stupid, lovin’ lame hoes, I know how to stay in shit way too long, and let it throw me off, loyal to a fault…”

Big Sean and Hit-Boy previously connected on Sean’s fifth studio LP Detroit 2, a 21-track body of work that was released last fall and boasted a wealth of contributions from the likes of Nipsey Hussle, Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign, Jhené Aiko, Anderson .Paak, Wale, Lil Wayne, and many of Sean’s fellow Detroit peers. Detroit 2 further solidified his stance as one of the biggest in the game, thanks to a number one placement on the Billboard 200 following 103,000 first-week album equivalent units sold. Since then, Sean could be heard obliterating songs from others, including Benny The Butcher “Timeless,” Megan Thee Stallion’s “Go Crazy,” Jack Harlow’s “Way Out,” DJ Khaled’s “THIS IS MY YEAR,” Yung Bleu’s “Way More Close,” and Belly’s “Scary Sight.”
