The west coast has been a huge part of hip hop for a very long time now and with the given talent we currently have, it is safe to say that the torches will be carried for years to come. Inglewood rapper D Smoke has been pretty active in recent times — it was just seven months ago that he released the deluxe edition of his debut album, Black Habits. The reissue added four songs and features from Snow Tha Product and E-40 to the already stellar project that showcased appearances from Ari Lennox, Snoop Dogg, Sir, Jill Scott, Davion Farris, Jackie Grouche, and Iguocho. Since then the he has remained fairly active on the music scene by releasing a string of singles, it turned out that he was gearing up for the release of his sophomore album War & Wonders.

It is evident that D Smoke’s current and future successes were destined for him. Overcoming many obstacles and becoming the victor of the Netflix series Rhythm N Flow hosted by T.I., Cardi B and Chance The Rapper, the bilingual rapper has taken advantage of every opportunity presented to him to elevate his craft and his people. His debut album Black Habits was the perfect way to come out the gate and making a name for himself. War & Wonders is a clear indication that the 2-time Grammy nominated artist has a bright future ahead of him.

In a press release, Smoke discussed the meaning of the album: “War & Wonders is about capturing the beauty and struggle of Inglewood living,” said Smoke. “The wars we fight, both internal and external, help us to embrace love, success, and life’s many wonders. I connected with AJWILLDESIGN when a friend shared his art piece ‘Stronger Together’ over Instagram. It depicted a group of slaves uplifting one of their own out of bondage. It was already a brilliant piece and I just requested a hood version for the album artwork. It represents unity, struggle, and liberation.”
