The Baton Rouge star puts his own spin on Fivio Foreign’s hit single.

Earlier this week (Sept. 7), Kevin Gates decided to bless his fans with a new freestyle over the AXL Beats-produced instrumental for Fivio Foreign’s “Trust,” which sees him rapping about his mental and physical health, past deeds, religious faith, and more:

“Don’t like the bus no more, I travel on the train now, just know my presence then got heavy, please don’t think of me no more, new collective in perspective, this ain’t nothing like before, on location I been slangin’ cocaina, I’m on tour, yoga poses made intentions to surrender on the floor, released detention from my shoulders, ain’t no settling the scores, as I grew older, heart got colder, love don’t live here anymore…”

Just prior to the song was release, Gates dropped off an Instagram post of him performing the emotionally charged offering. Hopefully, there will be plenty more where this came from before the warm weather dissipates.

It’s been two years since we heard Gates’ sophomore LP I’m Him, which contained 17 tracks and no features. The project was a big commercial success for the Baton Rouge star, landing him within the top five of the Billboard 200 thanks to 72,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release — I’m Him has also since earned Gates a Gold certification in the United States. Since then, fans have received another mixtape, Only The Generals Part II, and a slew of well-received loose cuts and collaborations like “Still Hold Up,” “Grandmotha Grave,” “Difficult,” “Broken Love” with the late MO3, “No Security” with Fredo Bang, “Weeks,” “Wonderland,” “Power” with Dermot Kennedy, and — most recently — “Boat To Virginia” with Renni Rucci. Gates could even be heard freestyling over other hit records by Pooh Shiesty and SPOTEMGOTTEM. Presumably, he’s still working on his long-awaited album Khaza.
